A Wonderful New Addition

The Pink Ladies are tickled -- well...pink -- to announce the addition of a brand new member to our blog. Published Kentucky romance author Devon Matthews has come on board to make our blog even pinker than ever before! Join us in giving her a warm welcome...

Hi, all! My name is Devon Matthews. Like the other Pink Ladies, I'm a Kentucky gal. I'm also a wife and mother. For the past thirty years, I've been a stay-at-home mom, caring for a special needs child. I've also been told I'm something of an artist, but-aside from my family-the one thing I find most fulfilling is writing romance.

I've been writing stories since I learned to put the alphabet down on paper and form words. Books were my escape into a fantasy world and words were the pure magic that took me there. During my childhood, our tv was mostly tuned in to westerns. I became fascinated with all things to do with the Old West, and the men and women who lived there. It was the last untamed era in our country's history and the times were wildly romantic to a young girl's imagination. I was hooked!

Although I dabble in Fantasy and Futuristic romance, most of my heroes take form wearing spurs and with Peacemakers strapped low around their hips. In my debut novel, "Angel in the Rain," my hero, Rane is a gunfighter with a reputation for being deadly on the draw and with the ladies. Currently, I'm working on my next Western Historical Romance, which features a headstrong alpha cowboy who knows what he wants and won't stop until he gets it--and his heroine. Gotta love those guys.

Now you know about my love for westerns. So, tell me, what's your favorite romance genre? What in particular draws you to the genre again and again? Also, was it a book, a movie, or something else altogether that hooked you?

Thank you for stopping by the Pink Ladies Blog. I hope you'll come back often. Happy Reading!

Devon

Devon,

I'm so glad to "see" you here! I hope you and The Pink Ladies will have a wonderful time with the group blog!

As far as my favorite sub-genre, it's contemporary romance. But I also enjoy historicals and some paranormals.

My current read is an inspirational historical. Would that be called a sub-sub-genre?

Devon, I can't wait to read your next book! As for romance, I love the fantasy aspect of historicals, especially knights and cowboys. Contemporary life is sometimes -- well -- too real.

The last movie I saw was DOUBT and that was too real! But it was good and worthy of an Oscar.

Hi, Magdalena! Nice to see you here, too! Thanks for the well-wishes. Not sure about the sub-sub genre, but I hear that Inspys are doing very well these days. Hope you enjoy your book and thanks for hopping over from the Sisterwriters!

Hi, Jan! I'm so glad you stopped by. As for my next book--I wish I could put a copy in your hands right now! :D

I'm with you on the fantasy aspect of historicals. While I like them to be realistic and a bit gritty, they are still escapism for me. I'd much rather read about the reality of the 19th century or the dark ages. But I also enjoy an occasional contemp, if it's well done.

Congrats on all your recent releases! You continue to inspire me. :o) All my best to you and the other Sisterwriters!

I like mysteries, so any mystery with a romance attached will hook me. I can't get enough of Eve & Roarke.

I also enjoy some historical/time travels, like Lynn Kurland's books, or some of Christina Skye's.

Hi, Terry!

Thanks for stopping by! I'm also a fan of Lynn Kurland's medieval/time travels, but it's been a while since I've read her.

Have a great day!

Hey Devon!

Gosh, picking a specific genre is hard. I love all kinds and have a diverse taste in novels. Some days I like a contemporary that's down home. Other days I'd rather be swept away into the old west and introduced to a handsome rugged cowboy. Sometimes it's mystery or paranormal or urban fantasy.

Just depends on my mood, I guess cause I just love books, romances in particular, and I can get lost in the pages of just about anything that draws my attention.

Hi Taryn!

Great to see you here! How wonderful that you enjoy ALL genres. Getting really hooked on any certain one does have its pitfalls. I used to devour western historical romances, until around 10 years or so ago when the entire genre nearly bit the dust. I was forced to turn to other genres for reading material. Don't get me wrong, I've always enjoyed other genres, it's just that westerns were my first love. I'm something of a medieval buff, and I've read a lot of great Regency era historicals. I also like futuristic and sci-fi, certain paranormal themes, etc. ANY book is great, if it's well written and the author has an engaging voice.

Thanks for dropping in!

It is hard for me to pick a specific genre. I am a mood reader. I devour whatever I can find in that genre based on my mood. Currently I am into short contemporaries. But I have lots of westerns to read and suspense and paranormal,

Welcome Devon -

My favorite romance seems to be paranormal. I love the vamps and the weres. There is something sexy about a man biting you and also of a man changing into the beast we all know he is anyway! :) I'm not sure what it was that drew me to paranormal romance, but I am glad that it did. Though I will admit, I do not discriminate against any other romance genres!

Hi, Debby! Thanks for dropping in! Sounds like you have a TBR pile with variety. :o)

Hi, Tami! Thanks for the welcome! I think you hit the nail on the head with the reason we love vamps and weres. Of all the paranormals out there to choose from, they remain my faves.

I grew up on westerns, the romance between Mary and Hopalong Cassidy (the Clarence E Mulford version)was the first time I understood the attraction between the sexes. (Age and understanding have long allowed me to forgive his other flights of fancy, for his heroes were uncomplicated men of their times)
Writing, rather than genre, attracts me--a well-written book is a joy on many levels--and it is one of the reasons I jump at the chance to judge competitions like the Eppies (plus the free reads!}
Good luck with your next book.

Hi Devon. I just loved 'Angel In The Rain.' I too escaped into Westerns for many years, partly because of the romance of the era, and partly because they were full of hunky men - and beautiful horses!

I write mainly futuristic and fantasy, but I have had Western short stories published and plan to work on a full length. I also love reading any type of historical romance.

I look forward to your next book.

Lyn

Amy,
Thank you for the good luck wishes. I agree that a well written book transcends genre. So glad you could stop by. :o)

Teresa,
Egad, girl, you've outed me! :D Seriously though, I'm very happy to be here.

Lyn!
Wow, it's been a long time! I'm thrilled you enjoyed my story. :o) I remember your love of horses from a comment you sent me on myspace, oh... eons ago. At least it seems so. Hope you're doing well and I wish you all the success in the world with your books. Thanks so much for stopping in!
